A note on the simulation

The simulation is a simplified model. It helps you think a manoeuvre through, but a real boat in real wind and current can behave differently. Responsibility for the boat stays with the skipper on board. The guide and the simulation are no substitute for training or local knowledge.

In short

docking.academy works without an account, without cookies, without analytics or tracking and without third-party content. Fonts and all other files come from this website's own server.

Personal data is only processed where it cannot be avoided: when your browser loads the website, and when you write to us.

Hosting and server logs

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you open a page, Vercel's servers process the data your browser sends: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the referring page and the browser and operating system (user agent).

This is necessary to deliver the website and to keep it secure and stable. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is a working and secure website. Logs are kept only briefly under Vercel's retention rules and are not combined with other data.

We have a data processing agreement with Vercel under Art. 28 GDPR. Vercel is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, so transfers to the USA are based on the European Commission's adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). More: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy

Storage on your device

The app saves your settings, your own boat and your berth in your browser's storage (IndexedDB) so they are still there next time. It also notes in localStorage when you last closed the banner offering to install the app, so it does not come back straight away. A service worker keeps the app's files on your device so it works offline.

None of this is sent to us or anyone else. Storing it is strictly necessary for the service you asked for (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can delete it at any time by clearing this website's data in your browser.

Share links

When you share a manoeuvre, the berth, wind and boat are written into the link after the # sign. Browsers do not send that part of a link to the server, so the data goes only to the people you send the link to, through the app you choose.

Contact by email

If you write to us, we use your email address and your message only to answer you. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, or Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your message concerns a contract. We delete the email once the matter is settled, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16), erased (Art. 17) or its processing restricted (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). To use these rights, an email to the address above is enough.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one where you live or the one responsible for us.

You do not have to provide any personal data to use docking.academy. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
